Morningstar farms REDESIGN

ILLUSTRATION – PRINT DESIGN – CopyWriting

The Chicago Parks District’s Southeast Side had went through a period of land reclamation, development and transformation recently. Through this effort the steel mills, brownfields, and forgotten lands were turned into areas for exploration and learning, allowing park visitors to learn the location’s rich industrial and natural history. Design B&B earned the opportunity to work with the Chicago Parks District Southeast Side which included developing a full identity system for the park, a website, and marketing materials. The most special deliverable in this project for me—and the one I most worked on—was helping design and illustrate a junior activity print book (or booklet) that prompted young park visitors to participate in challenges and games. These activities pushed them to interact with their environment while also learning the land’s roots in the US steel industry, identifying its local flora and fauna, and testing their athleticism.

A graphic, vibrant, and playful identity system includes things like a topographical map pattern alluding to the physical features of the park, a badge and color system organizing the different activity sections available, and a set of illustrations that represents both the natural and industrial features and history of the Southeast Side of Chicago.
